Sue has recently joined Speedpro Imaging of Greater Atlanta as an Account Executive. With over 16 years of experience in large format digital imaging creation and production, she sought an opportunity to utilize her knowledge and expertise by applying it in a direct customer relationship role.

Sue knows how beautiful images that are larger than life are created, has a vast knowledge of color management, and knows all of the technical aspects of file formats, which will be of great value in assuring that Speedpro Imaging's clients achieve the best results for all of their displays, exhibits and graphics.

Sue moved to the Atlanta area 11 years ago from Boston, MA (although she was raised in New Jersey and says to "please not hold that against her"), with her husband Seth, who is an outstanding chef. They reside in historic East Point, GA, with their two sons, Logan and Gunnar, and two crazy, squirrel-chasing Jack Russells named Georgie and Zero.

Vehicle graphics are a terrific way to maximize your advertising dollars while adding to your marketing mix. When compared with traditional media channels, vehicle wrapping offers an unparalleled value. According to the Transportation Advertising Council, a division of the OAAA, vehicle advertising generates between 30,000 and 70,000 vehicular impressions per day. Whether you maintain an entire fleet of vehicles or just a single auto, vehicle graphics offer a tremendous value and great return on your initial investment.

Brand Exposure

This is an exceptional and cost effective way to add to your marketing mix. During an economic downturn, maintaining a consistent presence in front of consumers is as important as ever. It is this brand awareness and recall that plays such a critical role for consumers when they are ready to spend their hard earned dollars.

Cost Per Impression

There have been extensive case studies highlighting the value and effectiveness of vehicle-based advertising. Remember, it's not the product you sell, it's the features and benefits. In this case, you're not selling a vehicle wrap; you're selling 30,000 - 70,000 daily consumer impressions (assuming your customer isn't driving around in the woods). You don't sell advertising; you sell consistent brand exposure, allowing your customer to best represent their identity.

This beautiful creation was created with one of our misprints of canvas. Lisa, from Gorilla Sacks, came by one day to pick up some of our scrap banner, and noticed this misprint of canvas. We suggested that she give the canvas a try, because the image was so beautiful but didn't reach the potential the photographer wanted.

By lining the inside with regular plain canvas, she was able to produce this amazing, fashionable clutch purse.

Who is Josh Whitt?

Josh Whitt, from Bethlehem, GA, has over several years of experience in the sign industry. In high school, he found a passion in graphic design and took Graphic Communications for three years. Shortly after high school, Josh continued his passion to Lanier Technical College were he took numerous classes in Graphic Communications and Printing, during this time he freelanced for a while doing minor vinyl lettering and installs.

He's a father of an adorable little one year old boy, and currently resides with his wonderful wife. His hobbies include, but not limited to, drawing, computers, working on cars, online gaming, and spending time with his family.

10...9...8..7...6...5...4...3...2...1..Bust off! How many kids can say that they rode a space shuttle to class? Well, that's how Sage Jackson's speech therapy students will feel once they get into their newly wrapped bus shuttle for speech classes.

With our graphic designer's help, Sage Jackson came to us with an idea and a drawing. He want a bus shuttle to be wrapped like a space shuttle. After doing the Ark of Salvation, turning a bus shuttle to a space shuttle seems like one of our popular niches.

With two days of installation, we were able to create what every kid's dream... becoming an astronaut and riding in a space shuttle. With a little imagination, transferring your ordinary vehicle into an extraordinary vehicle is what we at Speedpro Imaging do.

To Prepress? Or not?

We recently came up with an issue about prepressing large format images.

If you're not from the print world, prepress is the term used in the printing and publishing industries for the processes and procedures that occur between the creation of a print layout and the final printing. The prepress procedure includes the manufacture of a printing plate, image carrier or form, ready for mounting on a printing press, as well as the adjustment of images and texts or the creation of a high-quality print file. This type of service is widely known in offset printing (via newsletter, catalogs, and etc)

So when the idea came up for us to do prepressing, some of our fellow colleagues were confused.

Why prepress?
If the image sent from their graphic designer is correct and approved than there's no need for prepressing?
Right?

No, not all the time. During some freak accidents, having a proof and prepressing the image prior to printing can save time and future issues. For example, what if the client's graphic designer accidentally didn't send you the right file to print? What if they sent the wrong image?

Calling up, verifying files received, and questions pixelated images can help you and your client grow and strengthen your trust and bond. Showing your clients that you will take extra steps for the perfect image can leave an everlasting impression.

Superbowl Champ Dorsey Levens’ Hit Play “TORN” Proves Its Staying Power

With Exclusive Run At Atlanta’s 14th Street Playhouse

(July 20, 2010) Atlanta, GA - Former NFL player and Super Bowl champion, Dorsey Levens and Tiffany Brown’s A Higher Calling Theatre Company scored again with a successful run of their breakout hit play, Torn at Atlanta's 14th Street Playhouse.

Torn, a Contemporary Christian Drama, originally premiered at Destiny Metropolitan Worship Church in Marietta Georgia to sold out crowds and as a result of its popularity, the producers decided to move it to the 14th Street playhouse to accommodate its growing audience.

The uniquely crafted story is riddled with comedic overtures that illustrate real issues people face in relationships. The themes resonated with packed audiences over the course of Torn’s five day run. Many local Atlanta celebrities and officials attended the Thursday VIP show, which garnered rave reviews.

In a role much different from his days in the NFL, Dorsey not only produced the play through his company, Levens Communication, but also had a starring role. Cast members Karon Joseph Riley’s and Ryan Stewart’s, journeys were similar to Levens transitioning from football to acting. Levens said, “ This has been a great experience and I’m glad the audiences have been so receptive.”

Torn’s star studded cast included: Dorsey Levens, Karon Joseph Riley and Ryan Stewart (Co-host of The 2 Live Stews), Corrine Van Ryck de Groot (Prize Fighter/American Gladiator/CSI/Lost), Marvin Baldwin Jr (The Blind Side/Vampire Diaries), LaMonica Green (The Family That Preys), Arle Michael (House of Payne), Roderick Minger (Why Did I Get Married Too), Shenay T. Perkins (Actress/Author) and Larry Brooks making his stage debut.

Fun Friday Project

Last Friday, we were finishing up a vehicle wrap, when we decided to use our installer's time wisely by adding to his list of installs: our cement door stoop area.

Now you may be wondering what were we planning on doing to our stoop, I mean, does vinyl even stick to cement and will it last for a long time? The answer to this question is yes. There is a special vinyl that is created to handle and contour to the holes and markings of the cement. For low traffic areas, the door step cover can last for years. However, in high traffic area some can last to less than a year.

With more and more companies becoming green, Speedpro Imaging of Greater Atlanta are also taking steps to becoming more GREEN!

Because our eco solvent inks aren't one of the friendliest-green inks (inks containing vegetable oil are), we've been taking steps in other departments to make up in our green efforts.

Recycling Banner/Media

We've recently found a local company, called Gorilla Sacks, that reused old and used banners, and turn them into purses and bags. They, then, sell the products online and at local consignment stores. Because they use vinyl banners are their material for the bags, the bags are more durable and versatile. Check out some of the samples we received from them.

Recycling Trade Show Displays

During a visit this Spring, we met a new supplier for trade show displays. After much talking and questioning, we found out that they have a service to recycle old metal trade show displays. They metal down the old trade shows and reuse the aluminum to make other products. The aluminum alloy used in their trade show displays are made with 15% recycled content and are 100% recyclable.

Recyclable Substrates

Recently our substrate suppliers have also seen the need in biodegradable substrates. What does this mean? Once you're done with your mounted image, you can just throw it away. Not like the traditional substrates made from PVC, these substrates won't take as long to break down into the environment.

Steps like theses are just some of the ways Speedpro Imaging of Greater Atlanta is taking on being environmentally friendly. "With global warming and pollution on the raise, I want my future generation to experience what I've experienced," stated Stephanie Bailey, Speedpro's Marketing Associate.

New Look New Feel

After reading an interesting article about spicing up your social media, it was time for Speedpro to revamp our Twitter and Blogger page.

Having first been designed by our Marketing Assistant, Stephanie, she used different project images and Hue for the first design. "I choose turquoise as the background color because it was voted Pantone color of the year. However, that was almost a year ago," stated Stephanie.

"With our new design for Twitter and Blogger, I decided to implement more colors since you specialize in high quality, high resolution printing. I remember Laura [Speedpro's Production Manager] using this design idea for some of our coupons, and I thought this is what I need," Stephanie explained about her latest Twitter design. "I took out the project images and Hue. And [I] decided to used only our contact information and logo, because I didn't want the design to be too complicated and busy."

Colors In Marketing

When you look at a flyer or any advertisement, do you think about the colors in the advertisement?

With the psychology of color, it is believed that certain colors give off or induce certain emotions.
For example, the image on top, what emotions do you feel when you look at it? I feel the flyer gives off a cool, sophisticated feel - something smooth and relaxing. Why is this? It is because blue and black we used. Blue is associated with trust, coolness, and reliability, while black gives off elegant, mystery, and sophistication.

Here is the total list of colors and what emotions they are associated with:

- Red: excitement, strength, danger, passion
- Blue: trust, belonging, coolness
- Yellow: warmth, sunshine, cheer, happiness
- Orange: playfulness, warmth
- Pink: soft, sweet, security
- Purple: royal, spirituality, dignity
- Green: nature, fresh, cool, growth
- Black: sophistication, elegant, mystery
- White: pure, clean, youthful
- Silver: prestige, cold, scientific
- Gold: prestige, expensive

Josef Frank

Happy Birthday to Josef Frank!

Born in Austria in July 15, 1885, Josef Frank was an Austrian/Swedish architect, engineer and textile designer. During 1933, he move to Sweden, where he worked for the Svenskt Tenn design company and produced many different designs until his death on January 8th 1967. In 1965, he won the Grand Austrian State Prize for architecture.

Today we remember his vibrant contemporary designs.

Being a “Marketing Associate” does have it’s perks for a workaholic like me.

Today I had the pleasure of getting a delivery of free bags.

I know what you’re thinking… I work at a large format printing company so how did I get them free? These bags are actually made out of recycled banners.

Because of the Green Movement, my co worker and I started to look up ways to become more Green within our company. True, we can recycle old paper documents, drinks cans, and plastic materials. However, what about our scraps from print jobs? Sometimes a whole print can be ruined by just one spelling error, so what then? Throw it away? Not us!

My co worker was actually able to find a local company (when I say local, I mean they are a block down from us – seriously) called Gorilla Sacks. They took print scraps and altered them into handbags, clutches, totes or messenger bags. We actually had the pleasure on meeting Lisa, founder of Gorilla Sacks.

With each bag, there is a tag attached.

When opened, you will find information on Gorilla Sacks, and information on the print. Sometimes an image of the print is included. Pretty nice huh?

Top 10 Things You Need to Know To Create A Buzz

Last Wednesday was my day of full networking. I left the studio at 11ish with my boss, David Hightower, and we didn't come back until 4:30ish. However the two events were worth it. After my HSMAI Luncheon, we went to Opera for the hosted ACVB Social Media and PR forum. It was about two hours with an hour or so of networking after wards. The forum included: Liz Lapidus from Liz Lapidus PR; Marlena Reed from Communications 21, and Steve Rice from Ogilvy Public Relations. With a Q and A session, I would have to give the forum FIVE stars (FIVE being the highest) for their answers and how ACVB already had most common questions prepared first. It was well organized I would have to say.

Here is a sheet that I received at the event:

TOP 10 THINGS YOU NEED OT KNOW TO CREATE A BUZZ

1. The single most important thing to remember is to maintain the integrity of your brand. Once you lose sight of that, the rest is just fluff.

2. It's not what you know, it's who you know. Get out and meet people; see and be seen.

3. Make it viral - take a lesson from the Faberge Organic Shampoo commercial: They told two friends and they told two friends and so on and so on. Use every promotional vehicle you have and barter with friends to use theirs. Blog, tweet, Facebook, and more.

4. Don't take yourself too seriously - you may have to take the bullet for a bad idea. Don't fight it. Accept it. Learn to laugh at yourself and move on.

5. Know your audience - don't sell ice to Eskimos.

6. Think outside the box - not outside the realm of possibility. Remember that you're trying to get from point a to point b, not off the charts or into space.

7. Make your message easily accessible (like a top 10 list); it needs to be simple enough for a reporter to quickly grasp, write about and then move on. Time is money and these days most of us are short on both - reporters are no exception.

8. Recycle - there's no such thing as an original idea. Tried and true formulas work for a reason: They're tried and true.

9. There is strength in numbers. Create a network of colleagues who work for and with like minded brands. Constantly reach out of them to create synergies and forge alliances to create win/win results.

10. Have fun but don't try to be funny - not everyone shares your sense of humor. When in doubt - call a colleague within your network and run the idea past him. Then think to yourself: Is he laughing with me or at me?

Print Product Review: Version 3 of 3M IJ180

Recently we had to pleasure on transferring over to Version 3 of 3M IJ180 for our vehicle graphic needs. After two months of use, our Production Manager made the executive decision to return to Version 1 of 3M IJ180.

Now with all new products and experiences, it is usually recommended for any tester to use the product or service for more than one month. From testing a new drug to driving a car, you may never know (after "the honeymoon stage") how a product or service really is after that first month.

With two months of usage and four vehicle wraps, our installers came to us with advice - switch back to Version 1. From our Production Manager's viewpoint, the printed image looked beautiful with no hash marks. However, our installers had concerns with the aggressive adhesive. They suggested that flat surfaces with minimal adjusting needed were perfect conditions for Version 3. However, because vehicles are curvy, Version 1 is better.

With this in mind, remember all experiences are different. However, this was just our experience. Happy Birthday to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Russian composer of the Romantic era, who is popularly associated with his pieces: Swan Lake and The Nutcracker.

Born into a middle-class family, Tchaikovsky was educated towards a career as a civil servant. However against his family's wishes, he decided to pursue a musical career. In 1862, he entered the St. Petersburg Conservatory, graduating in 1865.

Although he's received great success in music, Tchaikovsky was never emotionally secure. He suffered many personal crises and periods of depression. However, amongst the private turmoil, Tchaikovsky's reputation grew. He was honored by the Tsar, awarded a lifetime pension and lauded in the concert halls of the world. He died suddenly at the age of 53 from cholera. However some believe it to be suicide.

Though he had many emotional issues, let us celebrate what he gave to us in culture and beauty. His music is now able to be recognized and heard all over the world. Happy Birthday, Tchaikovsky!

How to take care of your vehicle wrap

Here are some helpful tips to take care your vehicle graphics so they last longer:

1. Vehicle cannot be washed for a minimum of 72 hours after application. This time allows the material adhesive to "cure" ensuring long term performance.

2. Vehicle must NEVER be pressure washed or go through a car wash for cleaning. As you could imaginge, the brushes and higher pressure sprayers can dull the finish graphic, or peel the vinyl, causing more damage to the graphic.

3. Vehicle must be hand washed with a non-abrasive cleaing solution such as liquid dish washing detergent. Avoid unnecessary scrubbing. Allow to dry naturally.

4. Because the rear window wiper can damage the window graphics/lettering, it is suggested to only ust it when needed, or not at all.

5. NEVER use an ice scraper on window graphics.

6. For magnets, please remember to take them off whenever you can. If magnets are left on continuously over months in hot weather, it has the ability to stick to the car.

7. To remove tar, oil, diesel smut, or bituminous material, wipe with 3M Citrus Based Industrial Cleaner or a rag dampened with kerosene, mineral spirits, heptane, or VM&P naphtha. Do not use other solvents!

8. To remove crayon, lipstick, or similar materials, select an appropriate solent and test it in an inconspicuous area to ensure it removes the contaminant without damaging the graphic. This must be done on a customer test and approve basis. Wash immediately with mild liquid detergent and water, and the rinse with clean water.

Interesting Ways To Get Your Booth Noticed

With 200 competitors under one roof during a trade show, there are many ways to get your trade show to stand out. Here are four helpful tips:

1. Contests, giveaways, a prize, etc. This method is a great way to get business cards and referrals. Many people will just pass by booths, not wanting to talk to anyone. However if there's a contest or giveaways going on at the booth with the fish bowl technique, then attendees seem to be more responsive to drop their business card off.

2. Interesting talent in the booth: Dancers, Pianists, Magicians, Acrobats - doing something off the wall and attention getting with live performers will gain the interest of your prospects, especially if you have them doing the same thing.

3. Effects: 3D TV's, reflective trade show, foam structures (used often in studio sets and movies), lighting, fog machines, etc. Nothing gets a person's attention then flashing lights and heavy fog.

4. Themes: Brainstorm for an interesting theme, some exhibitors come up with the craziest ideas, I say the sky is the limit. Whether it is a wacky image or a spooky show, having a consistant theme helps attendees to remember and describe your booth faster and easier.

Atlanta, GA –This April 19^th, join Speedpro Imaging of Greater Atlanta as they team up with the “Jeff Cronon Foundation of Hope” for a Charity Golf Tournament held at Country Club of the South in Alpharetta, GA.

With the economy just barely beginning to edge back from the nation’s latest recession, David Hightower, owner of a large format imaging company, did not hesitate when his Production Manager, Laura Nuse, came to him with a simple request- to make a contribution to the foundation. Having known Jeff Cronon and his family for years, Laura has always been avid volunteer to the Jeff Cronon Foundation and their events.

“ALS is a devastating disease”, says David. “Laura explained that it had hit a family to whom she was very close, and this was an event she had supported with her time and talents prior to joining our team. I believe that good, admirable businesses exist for many reasons, and high on the list is to extend a helping hand in our communities whenever possible. I went to one of our finest customers, Bill Cole, President of Tri-C Printing, to ask if he would be willing to join us on this project. He gladly agreed, and they provided the printed tri-fold mailers to solicit tournament entries. We want our associates to likewise feel that their work and talent has the capability to help others in a time of need.”

This foundation was set up to benefit the ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) Therapy Development Institute in its effort to find a cure for ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease). Over 30,000 families in the United States are impacted by this disease.It is estimated that about 5,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with the disease each year. About 90 to 95 percent of ALS cases have occurred randomly with no clear associated risk factor. “However, because Lou Gehrig’s disease is considered an orphan disease, there are not enough people afflicted to make it profitable for the giant pharmaceutical companies to research for a cure,” explained Laura.

In March of 2008, the Jeff Cronon Foundation of Hope held its first event benefiting ALS-TDI with “Country Music under Stars” jam session and concert. Through the generosity of friends, along with other corporate sponsors, they were able to raise over $175,000, with a net of $155,000. ALS is one of the cruelest and most devastating illnesses from which one can suffer. Lou Gehrig’s disease damages motor neurons in the brain and sprinal cord. These motor neurons are nerve cells that send messages for movement in the body. As time goes on, the disease then causes these motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord to shrink and disappear, so that the muscles no longer receive signals to move. As the muscles become smaller and weaker, the individual gradually becomes paralyzed.

One Sound and Entertainment Presents...

Mark Adams from One Sound and Entertainment came to us "in a pickle". Having had his vehicle wrapped a long time ago, it was time to update the logo and graphics. Because Mark's company features many different DJs and has it's own radio station, it was Laura's job to make it more vibrant and hip. With his logo in hand, we were able to start work.

With two days of printing and drying, we were able to start working on the installation.

Helpful tip: If you already have pre-exsisting graphics or vinyl on the vehicle, let your vehicle wrap supplier know. If you are unable to get the vinyl off, your vehicle wrap supplier has the supplies and knowledge on how to take it off. It may add additional services charges, but it'll save you time and your paint.

We were able to wrap the hood and back all within budget. Giving us the opportunity to give Mark more promoting areas.

The image above is a great example of a vehicle wrap decal. Because the car is already white, we were able just to print and cut out just what was needed for the image. This method was able to reduce the cost of the vehicle wrap substanically.

However, we did have a problem with the files. Because the files were sized for a different car year, the images didn't look right when they were resized. We had adjust to graphic to the car.

Helpful tip: It is important to give the year of the model because of measurements and graphics. Also if supplying graphics, make sure that the graphic designer is able to adjust the sizes. So when it is adjusted it won't look distorted.

Simple tips like these can make getting a vehicle wrap easy as 1-2-3.

Images likes like the one above recreates the living rooms of 20 families from the slums of Jakarta, Mumbai, Nairobi, and Caracas. With the help of a large format printer, Jonas was able to turn his high resolution photographs into 3-D, life size replicas of the rooms. The thought behind this creative idea was "to create for viewers a virtual experience of visiting the families." Jonas was able to create this feel and environment with the help of a large format printer.

"Building wraps... why aren't there any in certain areas? Especially in Atlanta?"

Many advertising and marketing individuals, that I have met, have always asked me this when they learn that I deal with large format printing. It's a very good question, given that the population of Atlanta is little over a million and many Fortune 500 companies are headquartered in the Atlanta area. So why isn't there any advertisements like building wraps? Why isn't this option or idea being use?

Simple - city ordinances. Because of certain ordinances or zoning, many unique and creative advertisements are shut down. Though in certain cities, they are welcomed with open arms. Not in Atlanta.

Many printers believe ordinances like these aren't fair. One of them being KH Outdoor. This billboard company is responsible for the MetroPCS three sided building wrap on the historic and vacant Medical Arts Building on Peachtree Street and Ivan Allen Jr. Boulevard. However, what happens when the city cites it as illegal.

You appeal it. According to an appeal filed with the city, KH Outdoor claims Atlanta's planning department failed to follow standard procedure when they issued two citations to the KH Outdoor. (Interesting...) They also state that the city has turned a blind eye to other building owners, such as Turner Studios and the Georgia Dome. (If you ever drive by them, see if you can spot why they stated these two. Being in the print industry, you notice everything.) And the third claim, it is unconstitutional under state and federal law. (I may need an attorney to way in, is it?) I believe so.

The first amendment is freedom of speech. I also understand that it can be illegal if it causes a riot. However, I have not seen downtown Atlanta in a riot, nor have I seen car accidents because of this building wrap. You would also think that Atlanta would like this exposure. I know many times when I'm looking for the latest building wrap, which is usually in Europe, I think, "Man, I'd love to see that."

Another point to make is the building is vacant. I understand if the building was occupied. But it's not. It's just sitting there. Doesn't it make Atlanta look worse with vacant and boarded up buildings? Last fall, we did some prints for the Dirty Truth. The Dirty Truth basically pointed out that there are many boarded up buildings and houses around Atlanta, even children notice them. Why is this important? Because when you read some of the summaries of the pictures the children taken, you see what one abandoned building at lead to many problems. If this building is occupied with KH Outdoor, who are managing the banner, less drug addicted people can hide in there. Thus making the streets around there safer.

Do you think the MetroPCS banner is an eye sore?

Turquoise Color of the Year

Dum dum du-num!!

After a grueling fight for the top, Pantone 15-5519 Turquoise was crowned Color of the Year by Pantone Color Institue. Having to battle with over 100 Pantone colors with dark secrets and light humility, Turquoise graced the stage with an relaxing yet confident walk.

When asked the judge, Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, "Why Turquoise?" She replied, "It's believed to be a protective talisman, a color of deep compassion and healing, and a color of faith and truth, inspired by water and sky. Through years of color word-association studies, we also find that turquoise represents an escape to many-taking them to a tropical paradise that is pleasant and inviting, even if only a fantasy."

I know one person who is living a fantasy now, and that's Turquoise, after getting such an honorary mention.

Hexis' New Cast Film

Carbon-fiber look is becoming more and more popular in the car world as well in the print world. Hexis has recently launched a cast vinyl with a carbon-fiber look, which is used to wrapping cars.

As part of the company's HX30000 Series, the Carbon cast is a multi-layered, 5-mil, cast-vinyl film with a carbon-fiber embossed pattern. This vinyl carries a solvent-based adhesive and a structured PE liner. Because of the liner, this enables the vinyl to allow air to egress during application. Also with the high flexibility and conformability attributes, Hexis' cast film is designed for heavily curved surfaces. Great for vehicles, furnitures, laptops, and cell phones.

It is currently available in 54" rolls .

Picture + Speedpro = Wonderful Canvas Piece

Here is one of our most recent projects at Speedpro. We had the opportunity to work with photographer, Brooke Hanna from 5 Petal Productions. She recently had a client come to her wanting one of their wedding pictures turned into a canvas painting. After many hours and days searching for someone to reproduce and stretch the image, she finally found us, Speedpro of Greater Atlanta.

With our experienced artist on hand, we were able to take care of her needs and desires. This project turned out really well. Printed on our Monet Canvas, we were able to purchase some stretchers at a near by art store and mount the canvas on it.

When it was time for Brooke to pick it up, she walked in with a big smile on her face. She was absolutely thrilled by the end result, and we were happy on being able to make her happy.

Atlanta Ballet + Speedpro Imaging

Last fall in 2009, Atlanta Ballet opened the season with the production of Mark Godden’s “The Magic Flute”. Originally made as an opera, the Atlanta Ballet gracefully danced across the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center stage, as Godden’s exciting and open movement style blended with the beauty of Mozart’s music. With guest artist, Jeff Holland Cook, conducting the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra along with a company of noted vocal soloists, the show was showered with rave reviews.

Mark Godden’s second full-length ballet, “The Magic Flute” premiered with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet in 2003. Based on Mozart’s 1791 “Die Zauberflote,” the ballet tells a determined love story. In an attempt to link the 18th-century opera with contemporary life, Godden employs abstract design scheme that is sometimes at odds with his own storytelling purpose.

Speedpro Imaging of Greater Atlanta had to the pleasure on helping recreate some props in the ballet - the portraits. Single panel foam boards were used for the portraits. With high resolution photographs, we were able to produce what they needed.

Check out our latest project for Man On Fire!

Having traveled from Albany, GA, Rex and his brother came to our chic studio in search for someone to help him get his 2004 Escalade wrap. He wanted to begin promoting his album and his music.

With a logo in place, Laura and Rex were able to collaborate an eye catching design that represented his album's name, Man On Fire.

Flames were thought of for the background, while an enlarged image of Rex was placed on each side of the wrap near the album's name. On the hood, you can find his album's cover picture. "I would have to say that this wrap really came out well. With certain situations, we were able to satisfy the customer, while not breaking any of the graphics... and I think it's EPIC," yelled Laura when asked her thoughts on the wrap.

No man with a conscience can just bat out illustrations. He's got to put all his talent and feeling into them! - Norman P. Rockwell

Having been commissioned by some of greatest leaders in his era, like President Eisenhower, Norman P. Rockwell was born on February 3rd, 1894. He would have been 116 years old today.

Born to Jarvis Waring and Nancy Rockwell in 1894, Rockwell was able to harness his art talents at a young age of 14. His first major breakthrough came at the age of 18 with his first book illustration for Carl H. Claudy's Tell Me Why: Stories about Mother Nature. This breakthrough help lead him to various other opportunities.

From becoming art editor to Boy's Life to being commissioned for personal portraits, Norman Rockwell wasn't always as celebrated and well-liked as he is today. Many of Rockwell's works were not taken seriously by most contemporary artists and critics. They would often regard his paintings and drawings as "bourgeois and kitsch." He was branded an illustrator. As time went on, Rockwell began receiving more attention as a painter when he began choosing more serious subjects. Many of his pieces helped influence future movies and the American way of life.

Rockwell died on November 8th, 1978 of emphysema at the age of 84 in Stockbridge, MA. One of the many attendees at his funeral included First Lady Rosalynn Carter.

Last Thursday, January 28th, the Speedpro family of Atlanta went to their first event with new member, Laura Nuse. Having recently joined Atlanta Visitors and Convention Bureau (AVCB), we thought it would be a great opportunity to introduce many new and old clients to Laura.

The event was held at Legends Event Center near the Turner Field. This event hall is a wonderful, three storied, restored church, which is now being used for weddings, meetings, conferences, and other events. Once entering the beautiful brick church, you are welcomed to an open floor space. This space is big enough to hold your wedding ceremony. In the back wall, there's an open bar. From this main level, you can look up and see a lofty looking balcony.

The bottom level of Legends has a chic, sophisticated look. There are individual private rooms with big comfy couches great for relaxing after a long ceremony. I would recommend this for a small reception. There's a stage for bands and performers, and an open bar to serve drinks. The private warm feel makes it a perfect vibe for lounging around. (Trust me, the couches were amazing!)

The upper level has a glass balcony, where you are able to look down to the main floor. A side door opens up to an outside balcony that overlooks the city of Atlanta. The scenery and view is breathless. I would recommend this level for musicians that may be playing music during the ceremony.

We met a lot of amazing and nice people. I couldn't find my mentor that night. However, I did meet Tammy, from a landscaping company called Crabapple. She was a mentor for another group but she took me under her wing. We talked about the value of AVCB and getting to know people.

As time winded down, we all had a great time at the event! The food, the layout, and the game was fun and exciting.

Rock Springs Textured Mural

Teaching kids about nutrition is one of the most forgotten practices in recent years. With a high rate of obesity, especially among young children, schools are starting to implement more informational techniques through creative ways.

In Rock Springs Elementary located in Lawrenceville, GA, this rings true.

Having been contacted by Joyce, Rock Spring's bookkeeper, we started to work with their nutritional specialist, Bonnie, on creating cool, textured wall murals for their cafeteria. Because Bonnie knew which graphic she wanted, our production manager had the ability to do a quick turn around for them.

Within a couple of days, we were able to install the wall mural within hours. Check out some pictures from the install.With perfectly thought-out lunch meals, and graphics encouraging exercise and reinforcing the food pyramid, I know that the students of Rock Springs Elementary will not have a high rate of obesity.

Celebrate the Century Express Train Wrap

In 2000, the US Postal Service launched a commemorative stamp and education campaign honoring the most significant people, places, events, and trends of the 20th Century. To support this "Celebrate-the-Century" program, the US Postal Service took a four-car Amtrak train to cities throughout the nation. Equipped with interactive exhibits, the train helped students and families travel back in time.

This train wrap was installed with 3M Scotchprint graphics and produced by New Image Technologies. The train wrap design presented colorful enlargements of the 150 stamps from the Postal Services' "Celebrate-the-Century" series.

Check out our latest mission we completed. With some obstacles in our way (like holiday breaks and weather conditions), the Speedpro of Greater Atlanta team was able to finish the vehicle wrap without fail.
It all started in late November, when we received a call from Joseph Lord, CEO of PRG (Precision Roofing Group) about getting a vehicle wrap done. As time progressed, a H3 Hummer was chosen.

With this in mind, Laura Nuse, production manager of Speedpro of Greater Atlanta, began to design and layout panels for this vehicle wrap. "This was my first [full] vehicle wrap [so] I'm nervous!" She exclaimed as she guided and watched her baby come to life. With the help of our experienced installers, we were able to execute the vehicle wrap.

Now whenever you see this vehicle driving around Georgia, please think of Speedpro Imaging of Greater Atlanta and PRG!

Puma 3D Window Display - Literally

In 2006, Riot Event + Sponsorship, a North American experimental marketing agency, installed a 3-D window display in a Toronto PUMA store. This window display was installed and timed perfectly. The PUMA window display was scheduled to be installed and shown just when the Toronto International Film Festival started that week. To get the whole affect of the 3-D image, you had to have 3-D PUMA glasses that was available inside for free. Because of this innovative and timed approach, I give them two thumbs up.

There are numerous reasons on why Riot Event + Sponsorship received the highly decorated two thumbs up from me. The two most popular factors for the thumbs up are the timing of the campaign and the 3-D glasses placement. These two factors are what hit me hard to think, 'Wow. How clever.' Though having a 3-D image as your window display is pretty unique, it's the most obvious reason about the campaign. Because it was so obvious, the genius creativity is decreased.

However after finding out that they positioned the campaign right when a big international event was being held, I thought 'Huh. That's a good idea.' The genius creativity is increased a little more. Then hearing that on lookers would have to walk into the store and ask for the free glasses, I thought, 'Genius!' Why you may ask? Simple. Impulsive buying.

By making the 3-D glasses only obtainable at the cashiers' station, prospective customers would have to walk into the store and go through the merchandise. Though many of us don't want to admit it, but a lot of us are impulsive buyers. Having to ignore sales racks or clearance items, just to get free 3-D glasses is crazy! (At least it is for me.) While I'm going through the effort to get my 3-D glasses, I might as well look around. This factor increases the chances of a purchase. So by making the 3-D glasses only available inside, the marketing agency put into consideration some people's ability to impulsively buy things. Genius. Playing on our bargain hunting and impulsive buying habits was just pure genius.

Remember next time you have to create a window display for your store. Find ways to get prospect clients into your store even if it's for something free and inexpensive. It will increase the chances of a sale.

Imagine the ability to change image into decoration in your bathroom. From the navy blue water to the bright orange tail fish, changing your bathroom into a life size aquarium is possible.

Check out the wrap we did in our bathroom. I had a brilliant idea to start wrap items around the office. This creative light bulb came from all hours of researching on what different sign shops and print shops were doing around the world. I soon saw the possibly of wrapping laptops. I found out that only certain areas of the laptop were able to be wrapped, like around the screen.

After watching installers put on a vehicle wrap, I decided to venture out and wrap my computer mouse, which only led to our toilet being wrapped. Just think what I'll come up next.

Check out Speedpro Imaging's latest project. This 16 Passenger bus was once an all white bus with a simple blue stripe on the bottom.

Transforming simple vehicles into an amazing piece of art is what Speedpro Imaging can do. This bus was done for a local Atlanta church in Midtown. With the collaboration of both graphic designers, we were able to create what you see today. Created by Edge Design, an all-women run interior design company, this men's bathroom features a mural of women watching you do your business. Having a client that is ran by all women executes, Edge Design was able to use their creativity and humor into designing this hilarious wall mural.

Creative projects and ideas, like this, is what gets companies recognized and remembered. This decorative wall mural now benefits both companies. How you may ask? Easy. Trade show season is around the corner, and you decided to exhibit your business at one of the many events being promoted. If you're a veteran to trade shows, then you probably already know your ABC's of trade show exhibiting. If not, then here they are:

A: Attention - pay attention to the attendee. If you have one checking out this trade show booth, it is important that you talk and engage them. Don't bounce back and forth on visitors in your booth space. It's always good to have back-up representatives with you, so if you do get caught up, there's someone to assist other attendees. Remember answering their questions, limiting their confusion, and getting their information is why you're there promoting your business.

B: Body Language - practice on your body language. Having your arms crossed gives off the wrong message. You should be open and easy to talk to. Trust me. It's imitating to approach someone that you don't know, especially if they are giving off negative vibes. As much as the attendee wants to know what services you can provide, they can live without the negative vibes.

C: Convincing - one of the most important step is being convincing. If you can convince the attendee that you are someone that they can rely on, then everything else may not matter. If you're exhibiting lotion that is said to reduce wrinkles but smells like fish, this is where this step comes in. Convincing and gaining the attendee's trust can get you a sale or even referrals. It is said that many people are afraid to do new business because they already have trust in their current supplier that they don't see the need to change. This is the type of bond and relationship you should be seeking. By getting the buyer to trust you, you end up getting the buyer to trust your product.

These simple ABC's will help you on your exhibit and presentation of your company.

With vehicle wraps becoming one of the most popular marketing methods in the world, the idea of getting one is tempting. There is no harm in calling print shops, and getting a quote on what you want. However, to speed up the process, especially if you're on a deadline, there are some things you'll need to know.

1. What is the make and model of the car?
2. What year is the car?
3. What is your budget?
4. Do you already have a graphic?

Questions like these are some of the most common questions the print shop will ask. For pricing and time, it is important to answer them. Here are some questions that may also appear:

1. How many colors are there in the graphic?

Check out our latest project, Orion Restoration truck wrap.

Though the weather wasn't always sunny for our installs, we were able to raise above the down pour from Hurricane Edna. Using one of our available bays, installation and rain wasn't a problem for our installers. We were able to keep on track with our dates through the rain. This is something that many printers who do vehicle wraps have an issue with because of not having a bay.

Orion Restorations specializes in providing services following any man-made or natural emergency including: hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, fires, and other disastrous events. By looking at the graphics on the box truck, we were able to convey their business services.

The installation only took a day, starting around 10 in the morning. The Orion professionals were able bring in the truck around 5 PM, and by Wednesday morning, the installation of the vehicle wrap started. On Thursday morning, Orion Restoration was able to pick up their newly wrapped truck.

Interior Design = Advertising Deals

How can interior design relate to advertisement deals?

Interior design can always be categorize under services. However some interior design can also fall under advertising.

By marketing empty wall space or floor space to a brand, bars, retail stores, and/or offices can design their whole room theme to that one advertisement image.

For example, the picture on the right was done by one of our sister stores for a bar. Now the bar theme was Hawaiian tiki lounge. The bar owners and interior designer were able to sell advertisement placement for liquors sold at the bar. This bar was able to tie in the theme of the environment to the advertisement.

Interior design can be categorize in many different areas. Just thinking out of the box and knowing your options, advertisers and interior designers are able to work together and create unique innovative ideas for both categories.

Glo Canvas

DuffyLondon, also known as Chris Duffy, is a young, cool designer of the London design field. Chris's textile prints create a harmonious and edgy sense of style. However still creating a sense of decadence for both formal and informal usage. By using his creative graphic designs for wall and hanging lights, his work has been building equally by edginess and utility.

Some of his products are created by digital prints. The picture from above left is just one of his many products. This product is called Glo Canvas. He used digitally printed images on canvas and mount them onto a backlit object.

Duffy London is a creative, out-of-the-box line that pushes creative digital printing to the edge. Instead of the standard thought process for digital prints, Chris was able to take harmonious images and create them into something awe striking.

Remember just because print shops can create banners and vehicle wraps, doesn't mean that's all they do.

Using Backlit Lighting in Decorating

In the Kress Night Club on Hollywood Blvd, backlit images of flowers hover around the top of the bar, giving a powerful presentation and wonderful image that gives the main focus on the bar.

Using backlit images to help gain focus on a certain wall or image is a very successful technique. Just looking at the backlit in the images, one of the first things you notice are the flowers. Now imagine that all the lights were dimmed, except for the backlit images around the bar. The colors of purple, yellow, pink, and orange would pop the colors right out, thus making people more attached to the bar.

With many bars, whether they have neon letters or backlit images, use lights to gain people's attention. I like to think of like the bug zappers. The lights attach the party goers to the bar and encourage them to sit awhile and drink. If you have an a certain portrait or image you'd like to share with people, using backlit lighting might be the way to go.

Here are some examples of images used for backlit lighting.

Here is a backlit light created by Duffy London. You can tell from the image that she used the brightest part of her lighting on the edge, right over the while clouds. By doing this, she was able to bring give off a 3D effect with her image.

Her backlit is also thin and close to the wall, giving it a picture frame look.

In the image to our right, we are able to see what backlit lighting can be used in a room. This backlit light was designed by Catherine Kullberg. You can see it's an image of a lit candle.

There are many uses for backlit images in decorating. It just take imagination and a great source to get what you're looking for.

Dirty Truth Campaign

ATLANTA, GEORGIA: The Dirty Truth Campaign - www.dirtytruth.org - (in collaboration with Atlanta artist Lisa Tuttle) present The N PU-V Photovoice Project: Taking it to the Streets, an exhibition of large-scale color photographs (48”x40”) and narratives produced by community youth that focus on the vacant housing, blight and excessive trash that continue to plague the neighborhoods of southeast Atlanta. The exhibition will be presented October 10 – 30, 2009 at the brand new facility in the Pittsburgh neighborhood – the Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center Atlanta, 967 Dewey Street, SE, Atlanta, Georgia 30310.

Much of the abandoned property and blight are in areas that immediately surround schools and parks, impacting the health and security of children. The exhibition will feature photos taken by students from W.L. Parks Middle School, Peoplestown Revitalization Corporation/Youth on the Move program, and The Center for Black Women’s Wellness/Plain Talk program.

The exhibition and related symposium are a culmination of this summer’s “Audacity of Hoops”, public art installation/events that were presented on outdoor basketball courts in the Pittsburgh, Mechanicsville and Peoplestown communities. Creative Loafing art critic Cinque Hicks described the July 25 presentation at Rosa Burney Park as neighbors coming together “in an effort to reclaim their neighborhoods through art” and “…a call to arms to change...” Photographic and video documentation of this summer’s activities will be also displayed in the Kroc Center exhibition.

An opening reception/awards ceremony will be presented on Saturday, October 10, 4 pm – 7 pm, which will also include 3-on-3 basketball games. A symposium of community leaders, VACANT PROPERTIES: City, County and State Policies that Shape Our Communities (for better or worse….) will be presented on Saturday, October 24, 3 pm – 5:30 pm. All events are free and open to the public.

When it comes to boat wraps, it is important to use the right vinyl for warranty and graphic needs. With the use of special Marine vinyl, this vinyl is able to handle reduce the graphics color fading and handle salt air. Using regular vehicle wrap vinyl is still alright to use, but it won't have an everlasting affect as Marine vinyl does.

Color Outside The Lines

Instead of following for the same old advertising or marketing method, try of something new that will leave an 'aha' moment to your customers.

The image above is an advertising for Folgers. The graphic is actually covering a manhole in New York. The steam coming through the manhole makes the cup of coffee graphic look like it's steaming and hot.

The image above is from Indivi Clothes in Tokyo, Japan. Indivi Clothes mounted panels of mirrors on a wall in the mall. They, then, stuck images of their clothing on them. This way women could try on their clothes without having to go into the store.

The following image is an advertisement for deordorant. The images are actually stuck on sliding window doors. When the door close, the image looks like there is a bunch of shoppers walking out. As the door opens, the group of people separate.

The last and final image is for a job recruiting office. They had used the sides of ATMs and vending machines for advertisement.

Letter from Hue

Woof!

Hi everyone!

I'm back from my adventure with Stephanie. Woof! It was wooferful! But I wasn't able to update as much as I wanted because of the Hurricane Bill. Woof. Though it didn't hit Virginia Beach, our hotel ended up having WIFI problems. Woof! It sure was scary! Woof! WOOF!

But don't worry I still had fun. When it was sunny, we went to the Virginia Aquarium on General Booth Blvd and the Lynnhave Mall. I saw alot of cool stuff while I was there, especially large format prints!

The picture above was taken at the Lynnhaven Mall near their food court. This is just a section of the wall graphic. However the image was as along as the wall. Because I was helping babysit Stephanie's son (RUFF!), I wasn't able to get a great picture of it. GRRR! But there are alots more of fun large format images coming your way!

Virginia Aquarium

On our journey through the Virginia Aquarium, Hue and I got to see a lots of cool animals.

One of Hue's favorite place was where the sea turtles were, especially the sea turtle in the picture on the left. This particular sea turtle enjoyed swimming behind anyone taking a picture. Hue LOVED interacting with it!

Here is one of murals created for a future exhibit at the aquarium. Though the signs didn't state who the future exhibit was for, it was really cool seeing how everything gets built prior to the animals living in it.

The wall mural is an image of a pier. You can see a sea gull and ship in the background. This one looked painted. However a vinyl background would have given more sharper lines and clarity.

Here are some backlit film at work. These backlit display talked about the ocean and marine science.

Backlit film is a clear material that can be printed on. This material can be later mounted on a surface. Backlit film is specially created to bring out the colors if light shined behind it.

Here are some samples of banner material. These were hung up in the front of the aquarium entrance.

They used Economy banner material for these. Though the banners look very much like Premium from far away, it's not until up close can you see the scrim texture.

You can tell in this picture that the banner was heat seamed from the indent on top near the dark shading.

Here you can also see the heat seamed in the middle of the banner.

PLEASE NOTE: From far a way or even a few feet, the heat seamed and/or the Economy material isn't noticeable until up close. That is why for trade shows, Premium material should be suggested for it's smooth texture.

How to use large format graphics in decorating?

Though large format graphics are not as popular in decorating as other materials, large format prints can still make a room look amazing.

Another helpful large format decorating tip is wall murals.
Turn your whole room into a forest to get a relaxing feel. From cut vinyl to full colored panels, large format printers are also able to get your wall into the image you're looking for. Whether it is simple tree branches (from the left), wall murals can change the feel and look of your room.

Remember, there is special vinyl out there for wall graphics. So before your decide on using a large format printer, make sure you know what material it's being printed on and the adhesive strength. You don't want to have a wall mural that once you peal it off, the paint comes with it.

The Rolling Memorial

September 11th-the day the world stopped.

Remembering those who have fought for our country and serviced during our nation's trying times brought back a sense of strength and togetherness that was once forgotten. As citizens of the United States of America, our courage and strength was tested on 9/11. And as a nation, we prevailed. On September 11th, we showed the world what Americans were made out of-determination, strength, courage, compassion, love, and pride for our country.

Last week, I received an email from my boss. It talked about a trucker who painted his cab and trailer with the names of all those who lost their lives on 9/11.

The trucker's name is John Holmgren from Shafer, Minn. He has been 'pulled over' numerous times just so the troopers can get their picture taken with the truck. Here are some pictures of his:

Car Wrap Maintenance

Congratulations! You finally got your car wrapped! The install took a while but the images line up perfectly and you're proud that your graphic looks WONDERFUL on your car. You pull out of the parking lot only to be caught behind a truck hauling dirt. Now the dirt hitting your freshly wrapped car. How will you clean it? What's the maintenance on car wraps?

Easy, here are the Dos and Don'ts of car wrap maintenance:

Do hand wash your car.
- Remember to avoid using ammonia and/or bleach based cleansers like Windex, 409, and etc.
- Use a mild liquid detergent and water solution to wash the graphic. You can slo use a soft brush, rag, or sponge to help clean some of the stuck on dirt.
-Try to avoid an unnecessary scrubbing, and you should be alright.

Do not go through an automatic car wash with brush systems. By going through an automatic car wash, some of the problems that might occur are:

· Brushes can catch a loose edge of the car wrap and cause more damage to the car and to the wrap.

· Brushes can dull or scratch the finish of the graphic.

Remember if you have questions about the material or maintenance, contact your installer or printer. Besides that have fun in your new wrapped car!!!!

Advertising Bloopers

Before you make your final decisions on advertisements, double check what you're graphics, logos, and catch-phrases are saying. Here are some advertising bloopers:

In Taiwan, the translation of the Pepsi slogan "Come alive with the Pepsi Generation" came out as "Pepsi will bring your ancestors back from the dead."
Also in Chinese, the Kentucky Friend Chicken slogan "finger-lickin' good" came out as "eat your fingers off."
The American slogan for Salem cigarettes, "Salem-Feeling Free," got translated in the Japanese market into "When smoking Salem, you feel so refreshed that your mind seems to be free and empty."
When Parker Pen marketed a ballpoint pen in Mexico, its ads were supposed to say "It won't leak in your pocket and embarrass you." However, the company mistakenly thought the Spanish work "embarazar" meant embarrass. Instead the ads said that "It won't leak in your pocket and make you pregnant."
In Italy, a campaign for Schweppes Tonic Water translated the name into Schweppes Toilet Water.
In an effort to boost orange juice sales in predominantly continental breakfast eating England, a campaign was devised to extoll the drink's eye-opening, pick-me-up qualities. Hence the slogan, "Orange Juice. It gets your pecker up."

However like offset printing, large format digital printing has many other sectors too-like backlit signs, trade show displays, and vehicle wraps. These are just some of the basic services of large format printing.

Because many people think of large format printing as banners, they fail to see how large format printing can be helpful. Though offset printing creates the informational materials for the business, large format printing creates the promotional/advertising materials for the business.

The Different Types of Vehicle Graphics

When looking for a vehicle graphic, know your options. Going to a print/sign shop that might not have too much experience in vehicle graphics, might not know what suits you the best..

There are many options, styles, and types of vehicle graphics:

Full Wrap-a full wrap is covering all of the vehicle including roof/hood/and bumpers.
Partial Wrap-the more economical wrap, doesn’t cover all or most of the vehicle, it may cover half the vehicle.
Decals-more individual pieces, they can range from bumper stickers to covering a tailgate. Much smaller than a partial and full wrap.
Perforated Windows-covering your back or side windows with a mesh adhesive film, you will still be able to see through it and great way to promote your business to the person behind you.
Magnets-magnets with your business information on them, can easily be taken off and stuck back on.

Remember to also see what their warranty is. Sometimes installers forget to put sealer on the graphic vinyl edge causing it to lift up and not stick on right.

However, once said and done, you'll have an amazing graphic to will impact drivers everywhere.
